TwitterGrams are a clever mashup Dave Winer came up with to send quick audio comments to Twitter, the social networking tool that lets you report what you’re doing now, and see what your pals are doing.

You can upload an audio file, or call in a message on your phone. Robert Scoble explained how it works in this post about audiotweeting his new baby’s first cry. Aw.

I like web audio of all sorts, podcasts, audio blog comments, so I took to the idea right away. Only trouble was when I subscribed to the TwitterGram feed in Bloglines often the .mp3 files were not recorded at a sample rate that Flash can handle, and I heard that chipmunk effect. So I made this little player that doesn’t use any Flash. I also had a thought it might be handy for the iPhone until it’s able to do Flash, though I haven’t tested it. Let me know if you have.

The player is simple, crude even, just playing the mp3 in a little iframe using your browser’s chosen media player (probably Quicktime), and outputting the feed using Feed2Js and Magpie.

Update: Finally tried it on the iPhone. Works now, with the viewport meta tag. Send yourself this link http://amyloo.com/grams/latestgrams.htm
