Making the war budget real

Aims to bring the mammoth cost of the war in Iraq into focus by equating budget line items and proposals to fractions of the war budget. Based conservatively on an Iraq budget of $10 billion per month.

Hillary asks for your trust

Showing it big so you can see the eyes:

Click on “Trust me.” It take you to a Washington Post story about a poll measuring voter perception of the candidates’ honesty. Six in 10 voters say Clinton is not honest and trustworthy.

You’ll want it smaller to put in a sidebar:

No-flash TwitterGram player

TwitterGrams are a clever mashup Dave Winer came up with to send quick audio comments to Twitter, the social networking tool that lets you report what you’re doing now, and see what your pals are doing.

You can upload an audio file, or call in a message on your phone. Robert Scoble explained how it works in this post about audiotweeting his new baby’s first cry. Aw.

I like web audio of all sorts, podcasts, audio blog comments, so I took to the idea right away. Only trouble was when I subscribed to the TwitterGram feed in Bloglines often the .mp3 files were not recorded at a sample rate that Flash can handle, and I heard that chipmunk effect. So I made this little player that doesn’t use any Flash. I also had a thought it might be handy for the iPhone until it’s able to do Flash, though I haven’t tested it. Let me know if you have.

The player is simple, crude even, just playing the mp3 in a little iframe using your browser’s chosen media player (probably Quicktime), and outputting the feed using Feed2Js and Magpie.

Update: Finally tried it on the iPhone. Works now, with the viewport meta tag. Send yourself this link http://amyloo.com/grams/latestgrams.htm

Copy the code below and paste it into your sidebar

You can also get it as a Google gadget.

You might also like the Grazr TwitterGram widget. It’s much more sophisticated, taking advantage of more capabilities provided by the Twitter API and even allowing a browse of a single user’s grams. It does use Flash.

See how any site might look on a mobile device

When your users enter a URL and submit the form they’re taken to a page displaying an approximation, not a true emulation, of how the page might look on a cell phone or other mobile device.

Copy the code below and paste it into your sidebar

Adjust the width to suit. It can go as narrow as 185px.
